TMA Forecasts Cold Season From June to August, Warns of Heavy Rains Later This Year

The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has announced that the June to August 2026 cold season is expected to be dominated by moderate to severe cold weather in various parts of the country, while also warning of possible heavy rains linked to El Niño conditions expected between October and December this year. Speaking to journalists on the outlook for the June, July and August (JJA) 2026 cold season, TMA Director General, Dr. Ladislaus Chang’a said the coldest periods are expected in July, particularly in the Southern Highlands, the Lake Victoria Zone and western parts of the country. He added that northern coastal areas and the Northeastern Highlands are expected to experience relatively warm to moderately cold conditions, with some areas likely to receive off-season rainfall despite the dry season. CHINESE NATIONALS ARRESTED OVER KIDNAPPING IN DAR ES SALAAM

The Police Force in the Special Zone of Dar es Salaam is holding four Chinese nationals on allegations of involvement in the kidnapping of two fellow businessmen, Weiyi Chen (64) and Liang Xiolo (44). According to a statement issued by the Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Commander, SACP Jumanne Muliro, the incident occurred on May 14, 2026 at around 10:30 p.m. at the PSSSF buildings located on Mission Street in Ilala. It is alleged that the victims were attacked by a group of seven people and forcefully abducted before being taken to an unknown location, while the suspects demanded a ransom of US$20 million from the victims’ relatives in exchange for their release. TANROADS CONSTRUCTS 243 KM OF TARMAC ROADS IN 10 MONTHS

Minister for Works, Abdallah Ulega, has said the Government through the Tanzania National Roads Agency has continued to strengthen the infrastructure sector in the country by successfully implementing road and bridge construction projects from July 2025 to April 2026 under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
