Minister for Industry and Trade, Judith Kapinga, has said that the Government will continue supporting investments in agricultural input manufacturing industries to ensure that Tanzania becomes a hub for the production of high-quality, safe, and environmentally friendly fertilizers in East Africa and across the African continent.
She made the remarks on May 30 in Kibaha, Coast Region, during a ceremony for the signing of two cooperation agreements. The first agreement was signed between Tanzania Biotech Products Limited (TBPL) and Tanzania Fertilizer Company (TFC), while the second agreement was signed between TBPL and the Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute (TARI).
Minister Kapinga said the initiative is in line with the Government’s commitment to increasing agricultural productivity through the use of technology, science, and quality inputs that protect soil health, the environment, and the well-being of citizens.
In another development, the Minister urged all institutions involved in the agreements to ensure effective implementation that delivers tangible and positive results for the nation. She emphasized that the Government will continue providing the necessary support to achieve the intended objectives.
She also directed the management of TBPL to strengthen its marketing and product promotion strategies in order to increase sales and fully utilize the factory’s significant production capacity.
Speaking on behalf of the National Development Corporation (NDC), Managing Director Dr. Nicolaus Shombe explained that the TBPL factory has the capacity to produce large quantities of biological products annually, with its machinery capable of producing more than 10 tons of various products.
He added that, apart from mosquito control biopesticides, the factory also manufactures crop protection biopesticides and organic fertilizers that support the production of organically grown agricultural products.
