CHINESE NATIONALS ARRESTED OVER KIDNAPPING IN DAR ES SALAAM




The Police Force in the Special Zone of Dar es Salaam is holding four Chinese nationals on allegations of involvement in the kidnapping of two fellow businessmen, Weiyi Chen (64) and Liang Xiolo (44).

According to a statement issued by the Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Commander, SACP Jumanne Muliro, the incident occurred on May 14, 2026 at around 10:30 p.m. at the PSSSF buildings located on Mission Street in Ilala.

It is alleged that the victims were attacked by a group of seven people and forcefully abducted before being taken to an unknown location, while the suspects demanded a ransom of US$20 million from the victims’ relatives in exchange for their release.

Police said they managed to trace the vehicles used in the incident, including a Toyota Alphard with fake registration number T.305 DRP and a Toyota Harrier bearing registration number T.188 DHT.

“Following an intensive operation conducted on May 16, 2026, the Police Force tracked and rescued the victims in the Mbezi area of Kinondoni District. They had sustained injuries on different parts of their bodies and were rushed to hospital for treatment, while Weiyi Chen continues to receive medical care due to his critical condition.”

The suspects arrested are Deng Anqing (49), Fan Zhong (49), Zhang Jianjun (52), and Deng Qiang (40). Police said they were found in possession of the victims’ mobile phones and other exhibits linked to the incident.
