Mbeto Urges Politicians, Analysts and Intellectuals to Protect National Interests

By Our Correspondent, Zanzibar.

Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) has called on retired leaders, academics, distinguished scholars and political, social and economic analysts to recognize that the cost of building a nation is far greater than the damage caused by destroying it.

The party also stated that when human beings speak carelessly without reflection, it is comparable to playing with a sharp sword or lighting a fire that spreads and burns forests, parks and wilderness.

The remarks were made by the Secretary of the Zanzibar NEC Special Committee for Ideology, Publicity and Training, Khamis Mbeto Khamis, who urged Tanzanians to understand the value of their unity rather than engage in statements that plant hatred, hostility and division within society.

Mbeto said citizens, retirees, scholars, analysts and intellectuals should be the first to wish Tanzania well, adding that those who will witness the nation remaining united over the next sixty years are Tanzanians themselves.

Speaking without mentioning names, positions or institutions, Mbeto said there has recently emerged a tendency among some individuals to make statements without considering their impact and benefits on a civilized society.

“It is dangerous for some retired leaders to issue harsh statements without weighing them carefully. There are also some respected scholars and intellectuals who make frightening remarks. They should understand that harsh words destroy rather than build the nation,” said Mbeto.

The publicity secretary said there is a need to discuss issues by following appropriate procedures that do not leave negative impacts on society, adding that it is unbecoming for elders to gain a reputation for speaking recklessly every day simply to seek glory and recognition.

“It is wrong for anyone to think that if disasters or unrest arise, they will remain safe. Chaos, violence and riots have neither eyes nor ears. They harm the rich, the poor, leaders and innocent citizens alike without warning,” he cautioned.

Mbeto further stated that no issue is too difficult to be discussed and resolved through civilized means. He therefore advised retired leaders at all levels, intellectuals and distinguished scholars to ensure that their words focus more on building and safeguarding national unity.

“There are some people who want to use chaos and violence as capital for gaining power. You cannot attain leadership through such invalid methods. The only acceptable path is democratic elections in order to assume leadership instead of boycotting,” Mbeto reminded.

The CCM publicity secretary also said that some politicians, while addressing public rallies, fail to observe legal principles and instead cross boundaries by making and spreading harmful statements.

“Politics that preach hostility have destabilized many nations, especially in Africa. Harsh and reckless words have disrupted unity and peace, causing killings, wars and bloodshed,” Mbeto emphasized.
