The Managing Director of tanesco.co.tz, Mr. Lazaro Twange, has said that the 400kV power transmission line project from Chalinze to Zuzu, Dodoma, is expected to be completed by August 18, 2026.
Speaking on May 20, 2026 during an inspection tour of the project in Morogoro and Dodoma regions, Mr. Twange said the project is important as it transmits electricity generated directly from the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project through Chalinze to Dodoma.
He said the implementation of the project is going hand in hand with the expansion of the Chalinze and Zuzu substations in Dodoma, noting that its completion will strengthen electricity availability for investment activities and create various economic opportunities in the country.
He said the Government under President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has allocated TZS 514 billion for the implementation of the project, which is expected to stimulate various economic and social activities in line with the increasing demand for electricity.
“Today we inspected the power transmission line from Chalinze to Dodoma. This line is important because it increases the capacity to transmit electricity from the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Dam to various consumers. The population has increased and economic activities have expanded, therefore we have now agreed that this project will be completed on August 18, 2026,” emphasized Mr. Twange.
He expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved and urged the contractor to speed up implementation to ensure the project is completed on time.
“We have agreed to increase the number of experts and sufficient equipment to ensure that this project is completed within the specified timeframe,” he added.
On his part, the Project Manager, Engineer Newtone Lingstone, said the 345-kilometre project from Chalinze to Dodoma is fully funded by the Government of Tanzania, while expansion works for the Chalinze and Dodoma substations are progressing well.
