The Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO) has been recognized by the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) as one of the enabling sectors contributing to the advancement of inclusive education and the welfare of students at the university.
The recognition was awarded on May 26, 2026, during a special event held at the University of Dar es Salaam Library Auditorium to acknowledge and appreciate the university’s development partners.
Speaking during the event, the Chancellor of the University of Dar es Salaam and Former Fourth Phase President, Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, said the contributions made by various stakeholders, including TANESCO, play a significant role in improving the learning environment and academic development of students.
“When we support these students, we are not doing them a favor. We are affirming their abilities, their dignity, and their rightful place in higher education,” said Dr. Kikwete.
He also thanked all development partners for continuing to collaborate with the university in ensuring access to inclusive education for all students, including those with special needs.
On behalf of TANESCO, the certificate of recognition and appreciation was received by the Acting Director of Communications and Customer Service, Irene Gowelle, representing Managing Director Lazaro Twange.
The recognition was awarded as a sign of appreciation for TANESCO’s contribution toward improving learning and study environments for students and lecturers with various disabilities and special needs at the university.
The event was held under the theme, “Building Inclusive Learning Environments through Strategic Partnerships,” aimed at promoting collaboration among institutions, development partners, and the community in advancing inclusive education in the country.
During the event, Dr. Kikwete also officially launched the “UDSM Marathon 2026,” scheduled to take place on December 5, 2026, with the aim of mobilizing resources to support inclusive education, student welfare, and programs assisting students with special needs.
