Dar es Salaam, 24th October 2025 (Afternoon): The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) continues to issue updates on the progress of the Severe Tropical Storm “CHENGE” over the Indian Ocean, in the northeastern part of Madagascar. As of this morning, “CHENGE” remained over the Ocean while moving westward toward the coast of Tanzania. The system was located over the Indian Ocean, northeast of Madagascar, approximately 1,680 kilometers east of the Mtwara coast . Analysis from weather prediction models indicates that the storm is expected to continue moving westward over the Indian Ocean while gradually weakening in intensity as it approaches the Tanzanian coast. This system is expected to contribute to slightly enhanced rainfall, strong winds, and large ocean waves between 26th and 28th October 2025 , particularly affecting areas in and around the Mtwara, Lindi, Pwani, Dar es Salaam, and Tanga regions , as well as the islands of Unguja and Pemba . Cyclone “CHENGE” began forming over the eastern Indian Ocean on October 17, 2025, and has continued to persist and intensify within that area. Current weather system analysis indicates that Cyclone “CHENGE” is expected to move westward across the Indian Ocean — toward the coastal zone of Tanzania — over the next four to five days (between October 26 and 27, 2025), while gradually weakening in strength. The National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA) has announced that a total of 1,582,140 Standard Four pupils from 20,517 schools across the country will sit for the Standard Four National Assessment (SFNA) from **October 22 to 23, 2025. Speaking to journalists in Dar es Salaam today, NECTA’s Executive Secretary, Prof. Said Ally Mohamed , said that of the total candidates, 764,290 are boys (48.31%) , while 817,850 are girls (51.69%) . He explained that 93.27% of the pupils will take the assessment in Kiswahili , while 6.73% will do it in English , depending on the language of instruction used in their schools. In addition, 5,750 pupils with special needs have been registered, including those with low vision, blindness, hearing impairment, intellectual disabilities, and physical disabilities. TANZANIA METEOROLOGICAL AUTHORITY FORECASTS BELOW-AVERAGE RAINFALL FOR NOVEMBER 2025 – APRIL 2026 SEASON

The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has released its seasonal rainfall outlook for the period between November 2025 and April 2026, indicating that most parts of the country are expected to experience below-average to average rainfall.  The outlook warns that this situation could impact various socio-economic sectors, particularly agriculture, livestock, water, energy, health, and food security. Speaking to journalists in Dar es Salaam, the Acting Director General of TMA, Dr. Ladislaus B. Chang’a, said the rains are expected to commence between the third and fourth week of October in the regions of Tabora, Katavi, and Kigoma, and gradually spread to the southern parts of the country by November 2025.
