CLEAN COOKING ENERGY EDUCATION REACHES REGIONAL AND COUNCIL DESK OFFICERS



📌 The goal is to create a common understanding in the implementation of the National Clean Cooking Energy Strategy.

📌 The training involves 26 regions and their respective councils.


The Ministry of Energy has begun providing education on Clean Cooking Energy to Clean Cooking Desk Officers at regional and council levels. The aim is to ensure a shared understanding in implementing the National Clean Cooking Energy Strategy and to enable the officers to clearly understand their responsibilities in its execution.


Opening the training in Kibaha District, Pwani Region, the Representative of the Regional Administrative Secretary, Ms. Hadija Mruma, commended the Ministry of Energy for its practical efforts in promoting the use of clean cooking energy across the country. She noted that among these efforts is ensuring that education and clean cooking equipment reach regional, council, and village levels.


She further stated that Pwani Region is taking various measures to ensure that citizens adopt clean cooking energy at both institutional and household levels. She cited an example that 76 percent of institutions serving more than 100 people in the region have already transitioned to clean cooking energy.


Ms. Mruma also applauded the efforts of the Rural Energy Agency (REA) officials who are collaborating with the region to promote clean cooking energy use, including the provision of gas cylinders at subsidized prices.


On his part, the Representative of the Director for Clean Cooking Energy from the Ministry of Energy, Mr. Ngereja Mgejwa, explained that the training sessions have begun in Kibaha, Pwani Region, and include participants from the regions of Pwani, Morogoro, Dar es Salaam, Mtwara, Lindi, and Tanga.


He added that the training on clean cooking energy will continue to be extended to Desk Officers in the remaining regions, with the goal of reaching all 26 regions and their respective councils.


Mr. Mgejwa emphasized that the adoption of clean cooking energy is a national and global priority aimed at addressing environmental, health, and economic challenges.


Meanwhile, the Head of the Communication Unit from the Ministry of Energy, Ms. Neema Mbuja, explained that the training also covers the National Clean Cooking Communication Strategy.


She highlighted the importance of equipping Desk Officers with effective communication approaches that will help them convey messages and awareness on clean cooking energy tailored to the communities they serve.


Ms. Mbuja further noted that the presence of the National Clean Cooking Communication Strategy provides clear guidance on how stakeholders can collaborate in public education efforts to dispel misconceptions about clean cooking energy and shift negative perceptions into positive attitudes—aimed at fostering behavioral change in support of the national clean cooking agenda.
