PRESENCE AND MOVEMENT OF CYCLONE “CHENGE” IN THE SOUTHWESTERN INDIAN OCEAN
Dar es Salaam, October 22, 2025:
The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has issued an update on the presence and movement of Tropical Cyclone “CHENGE” over the Indian Ocean, located northeast of Madagascar Island, approximately 2,400 kilometers east of the Mtwara coast.
Cyclone “CHENGE” began forming over the eastern Indian Ocean on October 17, 2025, and has continued to persist and intensify within that area.
Current weather system analysis indicates that Cyclone “CHENGE” is expected to move westward across the Indian Ocean — toward the coastal zone of Tanzania — over the next four to five days (between October 26 and 27, 2025), while gradually weakening in strength.
The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) continues to closely monitor the development and movement of Cyclone “CHENGE” and its potential impacts on weather systems across the country. Further updates will be issued as necessary.
ADVISORY:
Marine users and the general public are advised to stay updated and adhere to forecasts and advisories issued by the Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) and to follow guidance provided by relevant sectoral experts.
