The Chairperson of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Hon. Court of Appeal Judge Jacobs Mwambegele, has inspected the construction progress of 83 out of 90 polling stations designated for residents of the former wards of Ilangu, Ipwaga, Bulamata, and Mishamo in Tanganyika District Council, Katavi Region. These wards were dissolved by the Minister responsible for Local Government in accordance with the Local Government (District Authorities) Act, Chapter 287.

The inspection visit took place on October 26, 2025, in Tongwe Ward, Luhafwe Hamlet, where Judge Mwambegele was accompanied by the Katavi Regional Election Coordinator, the Returning Officer for Tanganyika Constituency, and other election officials. The purpose of the visit was to assess preparations ahead of the General Election for the President, Members of Parliament, and Councilors scheduled for October 29, 2025, across the country.

Speaking at the Luhafwe Market Grounds, Judge Mwambegele stated that the Commission had previously announced the relocation of some polling stations outside the refugee settlements, and his visit aimed to verify the implementation of that decision. He noted that the Commission has placed public notices in the dissolved areas and established new polling stations nearby to ensure all eligible voters can exercise their right to vote.

On her part, the Returning Officer for Tanganyika Constituency, Ms. Kagemlo Mutagwaba, said that voters from the dissolved wards have been sensitized and have shown great readiness to turn out and vote in the newly designated areas.

Tanzanians are expected to cast their votes in the General Election for the President, Members of Parliament, and Councilors on October 29, 2025, under the theme: “Your Vote, Your Right — Turn Out and Vote.”
