INFORMATION TO THE PUBLIC PROGRESS OF SEVERE TROPICAL STORM “CHENGE” IN THE SOUTHWESTERN INDIAN OCEAN.

Dar es Salaam, 24th October 2025 (Afternoon):

The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) continues to issue updates on the progress of the Severe Tropical Storm “CHENGE” over the Indian Ocean, in the northeastern part of Madagascar.

As of this morning, “CHENGE” remained over the Ocean while moving westward toward the coast of Tanzania. The system was located over the Indian Ocean, northeast of Madagascar, approximately 1,680 kilometers east of the Mtwara coast.

Analysis from weather prediction models indicates that the storm is expected to continue moving westward over the Indian Ocean while gradually weakening in intensity as it approaches the Tanzanian coast.

This system is expected to contribute to slightly enhanced rainfall, strong winds, and large ocean waves between 26th and 28th October 2025, particularly affecting areas in and around the Mtwara, Lindi, Pwani, Dar es Salaam, and Tanga regions, as well as the islands of Unguja and Pemba.

The Tanzania Meteorological Authority will continue to closely monitor the progress of Severe Tropical Storm “CHENGE” and its potential impacts on the country’s weather conditions. Updates will be issued as necessary and appropriate.

ADVICE TO THE PUBLIC:
Sea users and the general public are strongly advised to stay informed by following the latest weather forecasts and updates issued by the Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA). They are also encouraged to seek advice and guidance from relevant experts and authorities in their respective sectors.
