The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy responsible for Electricity and Renewable Energy, Engineer Felchesmi Mramba, has said that the 400-kilovolt (kV) power transmission line from Chalinze to Dodoma has been completed, paving the way for electricity generated at the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Plant (JNHPP) to reach Dodoma through Chalinze. Mramba made the statement today, August 18, 2026, while inspecting the final stages of the 345-kilometre Chalinze–Dodoma Power Transmission Line Project, as well as the expansion of the Chalinze and Zuzu substations in Pwani Region and Dodoma City, respectively. TOL Gases PLC Reports Strong Profit Growth, Urges Government to Buy Medical Oxygen from Private Producers

TOL Gases PLC has called on the Government to give more opportunities to companies with the capacity and expertise to produce medical oxygen for use in hospitals, arguing that private-sector producers have sufficient capacity to meet the country’s current and future demand. The call was made today in Dar es Salaam by TOL Gases PLC Managing Director Daniel Warungu while speaking to journalists after the conclusion of the company’s 31st Annual General Meeting. Warungu said private companies have invested heavily in oxygen production and therefore the Government should consider purchasing medical oxygen from them instead of investing in additional production plants. “We are making significant investments to produce oxygen and ensure the availability of medical oxygen in hospitals. Tanzania, Rwanda Agree to Strengthen Cooperation in Oil Sector

Tanzania’s Minister for Energy, Hon. Deogratius Ndejembi, has held talks with Rwanda’s Minister of Trade and Industry, Hon. Antoine Kajangwe, aimed at strengthening cooperation between Tanzania and Rwanda in the development of the energy sector, particularly the oil sub-sector. The two ministers met today, August 17, 2026, at the Ministry of Energy offices in Mtumba Government City, Dodoma, where they discussed various areas of cooperation between the two countries, with a particular focus on the oil sector. The meeting was attended by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy responsible for Oil and Gas, Dr. James Mataragio; Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Tanzania, General Patrick Nyamvumba; and the Ministry of Energy’s Commissioner for Oil and Gas, Goodluck Shirima.

Pope was accompanied by IOM Regional Director for East and Southern Africa, Frantz Celestin; IOM Chief of Mission in the United Republic of Tanzania, Ashraf Hassan; and IOM Director of Communications, Mohammedali Abunajela. The Tanzanian delegation also included Zanzibar Commissioner of Immigration, Hassan Ali Hassan, and the representative of the Commissioner General of Immigration, Commissioner of the Legal Division, Novaita Mrosso. Government Moves to Reduce Oil Tanker Turnaround Time at Port

DAR ES SALAAM The Government has put in place measures to reduce the amount of time oil tankers spend at the port, as part of efforts to improve efficiency in the receipt, storage and distribution of petroleum products in the country. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy responsible for Petroleum and Gas, Dr. James Mataragio, said this during an inspection tour of petroleum infrastructure at the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) and Tanzania International Petroleum Reserves Limited (TIPER). Dr. Mataragio said the Government wants to ensure that vessels arriving in the country receive services on time, discharge their petroleum products efficiently and leave the port without unnecessary delays. “It is the Government’s expectation that vessels arrive, discharge petroleum products and leave. Information and communication technology experts have called on Tanzania to strengthen public trust in digital services, including cybersecurity, personal data protection and digital literacy, to enable the country to benefit more from artificial intelligence (AI) and the digital economy.
