Tanzania Officials Meet IOM Director-General Amy Pope



Tanzania’s Minister for Home Affairs, Patrobas Katambi, and Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, have held a meeting with the Director-General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Amy Pope.

Pope was accompanied by IOM Regional Director for East and Southern Africa, Frantz Celestin; IOM Chief of Mission in the United Republic of Tanzania, Ashraf Hassan; and IOM Director of Communications, Mohammedali Abunajela.

The Tanzanian delegation also included Zanzibar Commissioner of Immigration, Hassan Ali Hassan, and the representative of the Commissioner General of Immigration, Commissioner of the Legal Division, Novaita Mrosso.

Amy Pope is in Tanzania on an official working visit. On August 17, 2026, she met with the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, in Zanzibar.

  The Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Ambassador Dr. Emmanuel Nchimbi, joined national leaders and members of the public in a Holy Mass commemorating the fifth anniversary of the passing of the Fifth Phase President of Tanzania, the late Dr. John Pombe Magufuli. The memorial service is being held today, March 17, 2026, in Chato, Geita Region. The Mass is led by the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Rulenge–Ngara, His Lordship Severine Niwemugizi.

*Government Launches 15274 Hotline to Ease Access to National ID Information

Dar es Salaam: The Government has urged citizens to use their mobile phones by dialing *15274 to easily access information related to National Identification Cards (NIDA). Speaking today, December 29, 2025, the Minister for Home Affairs, George Simbachawene, said the service will enable citizens to check the status of their National ID cards, including whether the card has been produced or not, with feedback provided within five days. He explained that through this number, citizens will receive important information regarding their National IDs, adding that damaged ID cards are expected to be replaced starting February 2026. “By using this number, you will be able to get information on whether your ID card has been produced. I emphasize that damaged ID cards will be issued in February 2026,” said Minister Simbachawene.
