Deputy Minister Makamba Calls on PBPA to Continue Public Education

Deputy Minister for Energy, Hon. Salome Makamba (MP), has called on the Petroleum Bulk Procurement Agency (PBPA) to continue strengthening public education initiatives to enhance citizens’ understanding of the Agency’s responsibilities and its contribution to ensuring a reliable supply of petroleum products in the country.

Hon. Makamba made the call while visiting the PBPA exhibition booth at Dimbani Grounds in Kizimkazi, Zanzibar, as part of the Kizimkazi Festival 2026.

She said it was important for the public to continue receiving education on the Bulk Procurement System for petroleum products and how PBPA carries out its responsibilities in overseeing the procurement of petroleum products to ensure a reliable supply of the essential commodity.

Hon. Makamba also commended PBPA for its performance in carrying out its responsibilities and ensuring the availability of petroleum products in the country.

Speaking during the visit, PBPA Petroleum Inspector, Mr. Issa Mwitazy, informed the Deputy Minister that the Agency continues to fulfil its mandate of ensuring the country maintains adequate stocks of petroleum products to meet market demand.

Mr. Mwitazy said PBPA’s participation in the Kizimkazi Festival has provided an opportunity for citizens and various stakeholders to receive information and clarification about the Agency’s responsibilities, as well as how the Bulk Procurement System operates.

He added that PBPA continues to maintain good cooperation with the Zanzibar Utilities Regulatory Authority (ZURA) on matters related to the petroleum sector.

The 2026 Kizimkazi Festival, which is being held for the third time, is taking place from August 12 to 14, 2026. The festival aims to identify and unlock various development opportunities under the theme, “Kizimkazi 2026: Opportunities and Celebration.”
