The Tanzania Wildlife Management Authority (TAWA) today, August 12, 2026, met with stakeholders from the Smart Investors Association of Tanzania (SWICA Operators Association of Tanzania – SOAT) in Dodoma to discuss progress in implementing Smart Investment (SWICA) agreements and develop strategies to increase benefits for the Government, investors and local communities.

The meeting, chaired by TAWA Acting Conservation Commissioner Mlage Yussuf Kabange, was part of the Authority’s efforts to strengthen cooperation with investors, improve the business and investment environment, and establish an effective communication framework between TAWA, companies implementing SWICA activities and other stakeholders.

Speaking during the meeting, Kabange commended the investors for their contribution to the development of communities surrounding their investment areas. Their support has included the construction of classrooms and dispensaries, provision of desks, support for youth sports activities and implementation of other community development projects.

He said the Government recognizes and values the investors’ contribution to stimulating community development while also supporting efforts to conserve wildlife resources.

Kabange also urged the investors to capitalize on opportunities expected to arise from the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) by investing in strategic areas managed by TAWA, including Makuyuni Wildlife Park in Arusha Region, Pande Forest Reserve in Dar es Salaam and Wami-Mbiki, which borders Pwani and Morogoro regions.

He explained that these areas offer various investment opportunities in tourism services, including the construction of tented lodges, tourist camps and other accommodation and hospitality infrastructure that could help serve visitors coming to Tanzania during the tournament.

Meanwhile, Kabange assured the investors that TAWA would continue providing high-level support and improving communication systems, including strengthening direct communication between the Authority and individual companies so that emerging challenges can be addressed promptly.

The meeting was the first between TAWA and SOAT since the association was established on March 28, 2026. It provided an opportunity for the two sides to discuss various strategic issues and reach joint resolutions aimed at strengthening the implementation of SWICA and promoting sustainable investment.
