Dodoma, August 14, 2026: Chairperson of the Board of the Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA), Hon. Justice Mshibe Ali Bakari, has urged all sectors in the country to make effective use of weather information in undertaking sector-specific preparations to address potential impacts associated with the El Niño phenomenon. Government Moves to Reduce Oil Tanker Turnaround Time at Port

DAR ES SALAAM The Government has put in place measures to reduce the amount of time oil tankers spend at the port, as part of efforts to improve efficiency in the receipt, storage and distribution of petroleum products in the country. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy responsible for Petroleum and Gas, Dr. James Mataragio, said this during an inspection tour of petroleum infrastructure at the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) and Tanzania International Petroleum Reserves Limited (TIPER). Dr. Mataragio said the Government wants to ensure that vessels arriving in the country receive services on time, discharge their petroleum products efficiently and leave the port without unnecessary delays. “It is the Government’s expectation that vessels arrive, discharge petroleum products and leave. Salome Makamba (MP), has called on the Petroleum Bulk Procurement Agency (PBPA) to continue strengthening public education initiatives to enhance citizens’ understanding of the Agency’s responsibilities and its contribution to ensuring a reliable supply of petroleum products in the country. Hon. Makamba made the call while visiting the PBPA exhibition booth at Dimbani Grounds in Kizimkazi, Zanzibar, as part of the Kizimkazi Festival 2026. NGALAWA RACE OFFERS ENTERTAINMENT AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUTH – DR. BITEKO

Former Deputy Prime Minister and Bukombe Member of Parliament, Hon. Dr. Doto Mashaka Biteko, has said that the Ngalawa Race is among the major entertainment events adding excitement to the Kizimkazi Festival 2026. The competition was held in Kizimkazi, South Unguja, on August 12, 2026, and featured intense competition, with Nassor Pandu from Mkunguni emerging as the winner of the Ngalawa Race. The race was part of various activities taking place during the Kizimkazi Festival. “It is evident that these competitions have become important for young people and the community at large. The event has brought together various stakeholders and significantly contributed to efforts to improve the environment for sports and entertainment,” Dr. Biteko said. Dr. Biteko added that the Ngalawa Race at the Kizimkazi Festival continues to create economic opportunities for young people through competition, culminating in two top teams, Mchangamle and Mkunguni.
