The Minister for Industry and Trade, Hon. Judith Kapinga, who is in Qatar on an official visit, has said Tanzania has numerous opportunities for investment and trade with Qatar, particularly in industries focused on adding value to raw materials.
Minister Kapinga made the remarks during a meeting with the First Vice Chairman of the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where she said the Government’s strategy to increase exports of Tanzanian products to the Qatari market, while attracting Qatari investment into Tanzania, particularly in value-addition industries, remains firmly in place.
She said the Ministry of Industry and Trade is working to ensure that a conducive environment is created for investors seeking to invest in Tanzania.
Earlier, during a presentation at the meeting attended by the Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba, and Mohammed bin Ahmed bin Twar Al Kuwari, the Director General of TANTRADE, Efraim Mafuru, said Tanzania and Qatar have opportunities to increase exports of Tanzanian products to the Qatari market, as well as the potential to use Qatar as a gateway to wider Gulf markets.
The strategy also seeks to fully utilise opportunities arising from Tanzania’s membership in the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC), as well as trade opportunities arising from Tanzania’s relations with Gulf countries.
Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba commended the good work being done by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in collaboration with TANTRADE, TISEZA, TPSF and TNCC, in organising and overseeing the Tanzania-Qatar Business and Investment Forum.
The forum aims to connect Qatari businesspeople and investors with genuine business and investment opportunities available in Tanzania, while facilitating direct discussions on investment, production, value addition of raw materials and market expansion.
Furthermore, Dr. Mwigulu directed the Ministry to take swift action to invite the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) to Tanzania, while organising business conferences, business seminars, investment opportunity meetings and sector-specific discussions aimed at building close and sustainable cooperation between the private sectors of Tanzania and Qatar.
