LONDO URGES TRADERS TO USE KARIAKOO FESTIVAL TO BOOST BUSINESS, INVESTMENT AND ACCESS AFRICAN MARKETS

DAR ES SALAAM, September 25, 2026 —

Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade, Hon. Dennis Londo, has urged traders in Kariakoo, Dar es Salaam, to use the Kariakoo Festival as an opportunity to expand their businesses, attract investment and access markets across East and Southern Africa.

Hon. Londo made the remarks today, September 25, 2026, in Dar es Salaam while officially launching the third edition of the Kariakoo Festival. He said the private sector plays a significant role, contributing approximately 70 percent towards achieving the country’s Vision 2050, particularly in trade integration and strengthening value chains.

Hon. Londo said the Government recognises the significant contribution of Kariakoo Market to the national economy, employment creation and circulation of money, describing it as an engine of business activity.

Speaking before the guest of honour, the representative of the Kariakoo Market Development Organisation, Mr Jossam Mzava, said the traders’ association has successfully brought together stakeholders in the business sector both within and outside the country, with the broader aim of increasing revenue and promoting economic growth.

The festival, held under the theme “Bei Shwaa Shwaaa,” meaning reduced prices, brings together various traders to discuss business opportunities and ways of utilising both domestic and international markets.

In another development, Hon. Londo directed institutions under the Ministry of Industry and Trade to begin participating in the festival to enable traders to access services and education on obtaining business licences, fair competition and quality marks.
