GOVERNMENT ALLOCATES SH20 BILLION TO COMPENSATE KIPUNGUNI RESIDENTS
DAR ES SALAAM:
The Government has allocated Sh20 billion to continue compensation payments to residents of Kipunguni, Dar es Salaam, as part of a plan to clear compensation arrears owed to affected residents in phases.
The Director of Finance and Accounting at the Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA), Mohamed Seif, said a total of 1,864 beneficiaries had been verified, of whom 717 had already received their compensation payments.
He said 1,147 beneficiaries remained to be paid, adding that TAA had already received Sh20 billion from the Government to continue with the compensation exercise.
According to Seif, a total of Sh86 billion has so far been received and used to pay compensation, out of the Sh144 billion required to settle all claims.
He said following the allocation of Sh20 billion in the latest phase, the remaining amount to be paid stands at Sh58 billion.
Seif assured residents that the Government is committed to clearing the entire compensation debt so that every eligible resident receives their rightful payment on time.
He said residents whose names are included in the list of beneficiaries for the current phase would receive special forms through Street Chairpersons and local government authorities.
After filling in the forms, residents will submit them to their respective banks for verification of their banking details, after which the forms will be returned to TAA for further processing.
TAA will also call the respective residents for final verification before the payments are completed.
Speaking during the event, TAA Director General Abdul Athumani Mbombokaleo said the payment exercise would officially begin on Monday, September 28, 2026, stressing that the Government was committed to ensuring that every eligible resident receives their rightful compensation.
“We take this opportunity to thank the residents of Kipunguni and other areas for their patience. This is an ongoing exercise, and everyone with a legitimate claim will be paid according to the phases as they are scheduled,” Mbombokaleo said.
He said the names of residents to be paid in the current phase would be submitted to Street Chairpersons and local government authorities, who would provide the beneficiaries with special forms to fill in their bank account details.
According to the Director General, verification of beneficiaries’ bank account details would be conducted this week before payments officially begin on Monday.
The Government also urged residents whose names do not appear in the current phase to remain patient, noting that compensation payments would continue in phases as funds become available.
