Minister for Industry and Trade, Hon. Judith Kapinga, has urged industries producing goods in sufficient quantities locally to ensure they protect the domestic market, while calling on Tanzanians to have confidence in products manufactured by their fellow citizens.

Hon. Kapinga made the remarks today, September 23, 2026, in Dar es Salaam, while inaugurating the Simama Metal Crown factory in Kigamboni District. The factory, which manufactures bottle caps, is 100 percent owned by a local investor.

She urged private sector institutions, including the Confederation of Tanzania Industries (CTI), Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF) and Tanzania National Business Council (TNBC), to effectively oversee factory owners and remind them of the principles they have established for the sustainability of industries.

She added that the Sh14 billion invested in the factory was part of efforts to increase domestic production and reduce dependence on imported products. She said the Government would continue to emphasise the importance of local investment and create a conducive environment for doing business.

Speaking on behalf of Simama Tanzania, Executive Director Norbert Simama said the bottle-cap factory has the capacity to produce 130 million caps per month for use by beverage manufacturers, meeting international quality standards and enabling the products to compete in the global market.

He stressed the importance of beverage manufacturers working with the factory by using its locally produced products, noting that goods manufactured in Tanzania should be of high quality and meet required standards in order to enhance competitiveness and strengthen the domestic market.

He further said industrial development plans require the participation of the private sector, while the Government continues to create a conducive environment for investors. He explained that achieving a US$1 trillion economy would depend largely on investment in the industrial sector.

He called on stakeholders to continue working together and meeting quality standards in order to strengthen domestic production and promote the national economy.
