11 Arrested Over Alleged Theft of TTCL Infrastructure

The Dar es Salaam Special Police Zone is holding 11 people, including Timothy Eshemo, popularly known as “Jack,” over allegations of stealing infrastructure belonging to Tanzania Telecommunications Corporation (TTCL).

The information was provided on August 27, 2026, by the Commander of the Dar es Salaam Special Police Zone, SACP Jumanne Muliro, while addressing journalists in Dar es Salaam.

SACP Muliro said some of the suspects are alleged to have been involved in planning the crimes, stealing TTCL infrastructure, and purchasing the stolen equipment for commercial purposes.

He said the stolen infrastructure includes copper cables, whose theft has resulted in interruptions or disruptions to communication services at various government and private institutions.

“The Dar es Salaam Special Police Zone condemns these acts of sabotage and will take action against everyone involved in planning and stealing the infrastructure,” said SACP Muliro.

According to Commander Muliro, efforts to identify and arrest the suspects were carried out between June and August 2026 in collaboration with TTCL’s Security Unit.

He said some of the suspects allegedly disguised themselves as TTCL employees in order to gain access to the infrastructure and steal copper cables.

“The crimes were committed in Kinondoni, Upanga and Mikocheni, where the suspects were allegedly led by a person known as Timothy Eshemo, popularly known as ‘Jack,’” said SACP Muliro.

The Police Force has continued with investigations to identify the wider network of individuals allegedly involved in the theft and to take further legal action against the suspects.
