GOVERNMENT DETERMINED TO DRIVE CLEAN COOKING ENERGY REVOLUTION – DEPUTY MINISTER SALOME MAKAMBA

📌 Taxes on clean cooking equipment have been reduced.

📌 The goal is to reach all Tanzanians.

The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania has reaffirmed its strong commitment to transforming the use of clean cooking energy through the National Clean Cooking Energy Strategy (2024–2034), which aims to ensure that 80 percent of Tanzanians use clean cooking energy by 2034.

This was stated by the Deputy Minister for Energy, Hon. Salome Makamba, while officiating the closing of the Clean Cooking Energy Awareness and Education Conference held on June 25, 2026, at the East Africa Commercial Logistics Center in Dar es Salaam.

Hon. Makamba said the time has come to ensure that every Tanzanian benefits from clean cooking energy in order to protect public health and conserve the environment, a move that will accelerate the country's transition to clean energy.

"To achieve the target of 80 percent clean cooking energy adoption by 2034, the Government has implemented various policy and administrative measures, including removing or reducing taxes on clean cooking equipment to lower costs for end users," she said.

Speaking at the event, TANESCO Marketing Manager, Mr. Fredrick Kalinga, said the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) is fully committed to reaching all citizens by educating and encouraging them to adopt electricity-based clean cooking solutions, thereby promoting sustainable economic growth for individuals and the nation as a whole.

"We will continue implementing projects that will enable us to distribute more electric cooking stoves to our customers and the public so that more Tanzanians can benefit from clean cooking energy generated by TANESCO," he said.

He added that, in addition to promoting electric clean cooking energy, TANESCO has continued to strengthen its customer service by ensuring that customers receive accurate and official information at all times.
