DSE and IFC Encourage Women’s Participation in Corporate Leadership, Nyalali Says They Drive Company Growth

It has been stated that women’s participation in leadership positions within institutions and companies in the country remains low, a situation that contributes to limited business growth and development.

This was revealed today in Dar es Salaam by the Head of Business Development at the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE), Emmanuel Nyalali, during the launch of the Women and Leadership Program. The program is a collaboration between the DSE and the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

Nyalali noted that studies show companies perform better when women are given leadership opportunities.

“It is well known that institutions that provide leadership opportunities to women tend to achieve greater business success. This is due to women’s strong social values, trustworthiness, and their ability to nurture communities, which contributes to organizational growth,” said Nyalali.

He added that women in leadership roles often demonstrate strong listening skills toward employees, and therefore encouraged companies listed on the DSE to prioritize women in leadership positions.

On his part, the Director of Treasury at CRDB Bank, Alex Ngusaru, stated that the bank has continued to promote women into leadership roles.

“In preparation for this initiative by IFC and DSE, our bank has already made significant progress. The Chairperson of our Board is a woman, the head of our foundation is a woman, and the leader of CRDB operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo is also a woman,” he said.

Ngusaru further emphasized that various studies continue to show that companies perform better when women are given leadership opportunities.
