Tanzania Ready to Host the World Tourism Awards – Dr. Abbasi

On June 28 this year, Tanzania will mark another major milestone in the tourism sector by hosting the 32nd edition of the World Tourism Awards for the Africa and Indian Ocean region. The event will be held at the Rotana Hotel in Dar es Salaam.

Speaking today, June 18, 2025, after visiting the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism's pavilion and other booths at the ongoing Public Service Week exhibitions in Dodoma, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Hassan Abbasi, said Tanzania’s hosting of these awards is a result of the country's growing international recognition in tourism, thanks to the efforts of President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

"We are the current holders of the awards for the World's Leading and Africa's Leading Safari Destination for 2024. Hosting these prestigious awards is a result of the significant work the President has done to promote our country through initiatives like The Royal Tour and other efforts,” said Dr. Abbasi, adding:

“Preparations are already underway through our Tourism Board, and we expect the event — which will showcase Tanzania to the world — to be attended by around 500 tourism stakeholders from across Africa and globally, with millions more following through television and social media platforms.”
