RC Chalamila Commends TANESCO's Collaboration with Local Government Authorities
Dar es Salaam, June 24, 2025
The Regional Commissioner of Dar es Salaam, Hon. Albert Chalamila, today officiated a special working session organized by the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) for Local Government Chairpersons from Kinondoni and Ubungo Municipal Councils. The session took place at Ubungo Plaza in Dar es Salaam.
In his opening remarks, Hon. Chalamila emphasized that local governments, through their leaders, are key stakeholders in the implementation of development projects in the country, particularly energy projects, which are mostly carried out at the community level.
> “Ward and street leaders are crucial to the implementation of TANESCO’s projects because these projects take place in their respective areas. I believe that through this meeting, our local leaders will become good ambassadors of TANESCO's services and also take an active role in safeguarding the company’s infrastructure,” said Hon. Chalamila.
He also commended TANESCO for recognizing the importance of working closely with local government leaders to ensure that citizens receive reliable and quality services. He stressed that this cooperation is a vital step toward achieving collective success in the energy sector.
On his part, TANESCO’s Managing Director, Mr. Lazaro Twange, stated that the organization had convened the meeting to establish a robust communication framework between TANESCO and local leaders, while also educating them on the company’s operations and services.
> “We want these leaders to be part of TANESCO because they live close to the people. Through direct communication, we can understand the challenges and feedback from citizens regarding our services and work together to improve them,” Mr. Twange explained.
In support of the efforts by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, to promote the use of clean energy, Mr. Twange handed over energy-efficient electric stoves to Hon. Chalamila and some of the local leaders present. This gesture aimed to raise awareness in the community about the use of safe and environmentally friendly energy.
