📌Said to be safe and environmentally friendly

The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has made a remarkable impact in Arusha Region by distributing 528 gas cylinders and accompanying stoves to prison staff in a move to promote the use of clean and safe cooking energy across the country.

This was revealed today, June 25, 2025, by the Chairman of the Rural Energy Board (REB), Ambassador Major General (Ret.) Jacob Kingu, during the launch of the gas stove distribution initiative held at Arusha Central Prison.

"The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, is the leading advocate for clean cooking energy in the country. She continues to encourage institutions serving over 100 people to adopt clean and safe energy solutions," he said.

He further noted that the government continues to encourage all Tanzanians to use clean cooking energy as a key method to protect the environment and combat deforestation.

On his part, the Director General of the Rural Energy Agency (REA), Eng. Hassan Saidy, told the prison staff that clean energy is a safe solution for the nation as it helps eliminate diseases caused by the use of unsafe and unclean sources like firewood and charcoal.

"My fellow officers, I strongly urge you to use clean and safe energy for your cooking needs. President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has invested heavily to ensure that every Tanzanian accesses clean cooking energy rather than relying on firewood and charcoal," said Eng. Saidy.

Speaking about the National Clean Cooking Communication Strategy, he stated that its main goal is to raise awareness among citizens and institutions on the importance of using clean cooking energy. One of the key objectives is to design and implement special awareness campaigns to promote its usage.

Meanwhile, the Acting Regional Prisons Commander for Arusha, ACP Prosper Kapinga, praised REA for this significant initiative, noting that the distribution of double-burner gas stoves and cylinders is a clear demonstration of the government’s commitment to improving citizens' lives through the adoption of clean cooking energy.
