AfDB President Akinwumi Adesina Concludes Four-Day Working Visit to Tanzania

The outgoing President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, has concluded his four-day working visit to Tanzania, which took place from June 12 to 15, 2025.

Dr. Adesina departed the country through Julius Nyerere International Airport, accompanied by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Hon. Denis Londo.

His visit to Tanzania followed an invitation from the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, with the aim of touring projects financed by the bank.

These projects include the construction of the Msalato International Airport and the Dodoma ring road, both of which were jointly inspected by President Samia and Dr. Adesina in Dodoma on June 14, 2025.

Dr. Adesina is the 8th President of the AfDB and has overseen significant reforms within the bank, transforming it into a robust institution with strong capital and technical capacity to drive economic transformation across Africa—particularly in infrastructure, agriculture, health, energy, climate change, and financial systems.

In recognition of his substantial contributions to the continent, the University of Dar es Salaam awarded him an Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy in Science during its 55th graduation ceremony (first session), held at the Mlimani City Hall in Dar es Salaam on June 13, 2025.
