WMA PLEDGES TO STRENGTHEN MEASUREMENT SERVICES IN IRAMBA DISTRICT

By WMA – Dodoma

The Weights and Measures Agency (WMA) has assured the Iramba District Commissioner, Hon. Selemani Mwendwa, of its commitment to strengthening the implementation and enforcement of measurement standards in the district to safeguard the economic interests of farmers and livestock keepers.

The assurance was given on August 8, 2026, when the District Commissioner visited the WMA exhibition booth at the 33rd Nane Nane Farmers’ Exhibition held at the Dkt. John Samwel Malecela Grounds in Dodoma, where he received education on proper measurement practices.

Speaking during the visit, WMA Singida Regional Manager, Mr. Willie Amosi, said the agency would work closely with the District Commissioner’s Office to coordinate and provide measurement education in various parts of Iramba.

He said the initiative would specifically target maize, sunflower and cotton farmers, as well as livestock keepers at livestock markets and auction centres.

Mr. Amosi further informed the District Commissioner that WMA would put in place plans to establish Measurement Clubs in various primary and secondary schools as part of its strategy to expand measurement awareness across mainland Tanzania, which falls under WMA’s mandate.

He also said WMA would continue collaborating with the District Commissioner’s Office to enable residents of Iramba to directly report the use of non-standard measurement instruments in markets, assuring them that legal action would be taken promptly against offenders.

For his part, Iramba District Commissioner, Hon. Selemani Mwendwa, welcomed the initiative, saying the district government was ready to cooperate with WMA to ensure that accurate and standard measurements are used, enabling citizens to receive fair returns for their efforts.

“I am very pleased. As the District Government, we are ready to work with WMA to ensure that accurate measurements are used and that citizens receive what they rightfully deserve from their efforts. I would like Iramba to be among the districts that promote the use of accurate measurements in agriculture, fishing and livestock sectors,” he said.

WMA experts also handed over educational leaflets on measurement standards to the District Commissioner to support continued public awareness and understanding of proper measurement practices.
