SECOND PHASE OF POWER LINE STRINGING IN KIKOMBO AND MKONZE FOR CHALINZE–DODOMA PROJECT TO BEGIN TOMORROW
The Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO) has announced that the contractor implementing the 400-kilovolt (kV) Chalinze–Dodoma Electricity Transmission Project will commence the second phase of power line stringing in the Kikombo and Mkonze areas of Dodoma from August 11 to 17, 2026.
The exercise is part of efforts to facilitate the contractor to continue with the implementation of the transmission project, which is nearing completion.
Acting Director of Communications and Customer Services at TANESCO, Ms. Irene Gowelle, said the second phase follows the successful completion of the first phase of the stringing exercise, which covered the section from Chalinze to Mkambarani in Morogoro.
She explained that due to the ongoing works, some regions will experience scheduled power supply interruptions. The affected areas will include regions within the Central, Western, Northern, South-Western and Lake Zones.
However, she clarified that Morogoro and Tanga regions will not be affected by the planned interruptions.
According to Ms. Gowelle, customers in the affected areas will experience power interruptions from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the scheduled works.
She said the measure is necessary to allow the contractor to safely undertake the work and ensure timely completion of the project, which is expected to significantly strengthen Tanzania’s electricity transmission system and improve the reliability of power supply.
“This is the second phase of the power line stringing exercise in the Kikombo and Mkonze areas of Dodoma. I would like to assure the public that we will continue providing power supply schedules through our social media platforms to enable citizens to plan their activities accordingly,” Ms. Gowelle emphasized.
The 400kV Chalinze–Dodoma Electricity Transmission Line Project is expected to be completed on August 21, 2026.
Upon completion, the project is expected to increase the capacity of Tanzania’s electricity transmission network and strengthen the availability of reliable and quality electricity services to consumers across the country.
