DMI PRINCIPAL HIGHLIGHTS NANE NANE SIGNIFICANCE, SAYS COLLEGE HAS UPDATED TRAINING CURRICULA

The Principal of the Dar es Salaam Maritime Institute (DMI), Dr. Tumaini Gurumo, has said Tanzania needs to increase the number of skilled professionals in transport and supply chain management to improve productivity, enhance the competitiveness of locally produced goods and support the country’s development goals under the National Development Vision 2050.

Dr. Gurumo made the remarks today in Dodoma while speaking to journalists during the 49th Nane Nane Farmers’ Exhibition at the Dkt. John Malecela Grounds.

He said DMI, which is well known for providing training in maritime studies and seafaring, also offers programmes in logistics and supply chain management, an area he described as crucial to strengthening trade and economic growth in Tanzania.

The expert noted that agriculture and maritime activities are closely interconnected, as agricultural produce generated across the country requires efficient transportation systems to reach consumers and markets on time.

Dr. Gurumo further said having a skilled workforce across the transport and supply chain sector is part of Tanzania’s preparations to compete in international markets, noting that economic competition extends beyond national borders.

Speaking about Artificial Intelligence (AI), Dr. Gurumo said DMI has continued to update its curricula to keep pace with technological developments, including the use of digital systems and AI in the transport sector.

He said the move is intended to ensure that DMI graduates enter the labour market equipped with skills that match the current needs of the transport sector and the wider economy.
