TOST to Play a Key Role in the Implementation of Tanzania's Vision 2050
Calls on Business Community and Investors to Pay Taxes Voluntarily
The Tax Ombudsman Service (TOST) has said it will play a vital role in the implementation of Tanzania's Vision 2050 by helping businesses and investors resolve tax-related challenges that may hinder their operations.
The remarks were made on July 2, 2026, by the Tax Ombudsman, Erastus Mtui, while addressing journalists at the institution's pavilion during the 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (Sabasaba).
Mtui explained that one of the primary objectives behind the establishment of TOST is to give confidence to traders and investors by assuring them that there is an independent institution ready to resolve tax-related disputes whenever they arise.
"Taxes are essential for the development and running of the country. We therefore encourage all taxpayers to fulfill their tax obligations voluntarily. Whenever they encounter tax-related obstacles, we are here to help remove those barriers so they can continue paying their taxes willingly," Mtui said.
He further emphasized that TOST will be an important stakeholder in supporting the implementation of Vision 2050.
According to Mtui, achieving the goals of Vision 2050 will require a significant improvement in the country's business and investment environment.
"We are targeting an average economic growth rate of not less than 10 percent in order to achieve the ambitious goal of building a one-trillion-dollar economy. Such growth can only be realized if the business and investment environment is conducive," he said.
He added that TOST will serve as an early intervention mechanism to ensure that tax disputes are resolved promptly, thereby improving the business climate, enabling enterprises to grow, and encouraging taxpayers to pay the correct amount of tax voluntarily.
