TAEC SHOWCASES HOW NUCLEAR TECHNOLOGY IS TRANSFORMING MULTIPLE SECTORS
As the 56th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (Sabasaba) continues at the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Trade Fair Grounds, the Tanzania Atomic Energy Commission (TAEC) has continued to demonstrate that nuclear technology is not only used for power generation but is also a key driver of economic growth, trade, investment, and social development through its application across various sectors.
Today marks the sixth day of the exhibition, which was officially opened on June 28 and is scheduled to conclude on July 13, 2026. TAEC's exhibition booth has remained one of the most visited attractions, drawing members of the public, students, researchers, investors, businesspeople, and stakeholders from both Tanzania and abroad who are eager to learn about the role of nuclear technology in the country's development.
TAEC's participation in this year's trade fair aligns with the Government's commitment to providing the public with accurate information on the safe use of radiation and nuclear technology, as well as its contribution to national economic growth through improved productivity, quality healthcare, food security, industrial development, scientific research, and environmental protection.
Speaking at the TAEC booth located inside the China Pavilion, TAEC Head of Communications, Mr. Peter Ngamilo, said the Sabasaba Trade Fair provides an important platform for the Commission to engage directly with the public and stakeholders, educating them about TAEC's mandate and the opportunities created by nuclear technology in national development.
"Our main objective is to ensure that the public understands that nuclear technology is an important tool for development. Through this exhibition, we continue to educate people on the safe use of radiation, TAEC's role in regulating and supervising the use of radiation in Tanzania, and how nuclear technology contributes to expanding business opportunities, improving productivity, and enhancing the quality of life for Tanzanians," said Mr. Ngamilo.
He noted that a growing number of visitors have been coming to the TAEC booth seeking information about nuclear technology and its applications across different sectors, an indication that public awareness and understanding of the technology continue to increase.
In the health sector, TAEC is providing education on the use of radiation in disease diagnosis, cancer treatment, nuclear medicine, and advanced medical imaging, enabling healthcare professionals to deliver more accurate diagnoses and effective treatment. These applications have significantly improved the quality of healthcare services in Tanzania while strengthening the country's capacity to utilize modern medical technologies to save lives.
In agriculture, TAEC is educating visitors on how nuclear technology contributes to improving crop varieties, increasing agricultural productivity, controlling crop pests, preserving harvested food, and enhancing food safety. These innovations play a vital role in boosting the competitiveness of Tanzanian agricultural products in both domestic and international markets.
