MAMBAMIAMBA JOINS TANZANIA'S CLEAN COOKING ENERGY JOURNEY

Residents of Mambamiamba Ward in Same District, Kilimanjaro Region, received education on the benefits of clean cooking energy on July 30, 2026, during the official launch of a branch of the Tanzania Women Empowerment Network (TAWEN).

The event brought together various government institutions, development partners, and members of the public, with each institution given an opportunity to showcase its services and highlight opportunities available within its sector. The Ministry of Energy used the occasion to educate residents on the advantages of clean cooking energy, including improved public health, environmental conservation, and reduced household energy costs.

Speaking during the event, Mr. Benezeth Kabunduguru, a Clean Cooking Energy Specialist from the Ministry of Energy, said the Government is implementing the National Clean Cooking Energy Strategy (2024–2034), which aims to ensure that 80 percent of Tanzanians use clean cooking energy by 2034, up from 28.6 percent in 2025.

He explained that the target will be achieved through collaboration between the Government, the private sector, development partners, and the public to expand access to clean cooking technologies while continuing to raise awareness about their benefits. He noted that clean cooking energy helps protect people's health by reducing exposure to harmful smoke from firewood and charcoal, conserves the environment by reducing deforestation, and saves both time and money, particularly for women and children.

Mr. Kabunduguru also encouraged residents of Mambamiamba Ward to embrace the various clean cooking technologies available in Tanzania and support the Government's efforts to achieve the goals of the National Clean Cooking Energy Strategy.

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the TAWEN Board, Ambassador Amina Salum Ali, commended the Ministry of Energy and its institutions for their continued efforts to educate and mobilize communities on the importance of clean cooking energy. She said these initiatives are increasing public awareness and enabling citizens to make informed decisions about their energy choices.

She added that TAWEN will continue working closely with the Ministry of Energy and other stakeholders to ensure that education on clean cooking energy reaches women and the wider community, thereby promoting greater adoption of clean cooking technologies for the benefit of public health, environmental protection, and the country's socio-economic development.
