JOURNALISTS URGED TO PRODUCE COMPELLING STORIES AND PROGRAMMES THAT PROMOTE CLEAN COOKING ENERGY ADOPTION
The Director of Radio Services at the Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation (TBC), Ms. Anna Kwambaza, has urged journalists to produce impactful programmes and news stories that can influence public attitudes and encourage the adoption of clean cooking energy.
Ms. Kwambaza made the call during a capacity-building workshop for journalists and Government Communication Officers on Reporting and Promoting Clean Cooking Energy, held in Morogoro Region.
During the workshop, she delivered a presentation on Enhancing Clean Cooking Energy Reporting, covering topics such as generating story ideas, developing compelling news angles, writing attention-grabbing headlines, and presenting content that effectively engages audiences. Participants were later assigned practical exercises, where they developed news stories, radio and television programmes, feature stories, and narratives on clean cooking energy before presenting them in groups for discussion and feedback.
She also trained participants on how to produce engaging radio and television programmes, write captivating news stories, and create compelling narratives that raise public awareness and inspire communities to embrace clean cooking energy.
In addition, Ms. Kwambaza guided participants on identifying newsworthy ideas, crafting attractive headlines, and effectively pitching story concepts to maximize their impact.
Following the training sessions, participants took part in practical exercises by producing radio and television programme concepts, feature stories, and news articles on clean cooking energy. They later presented their work before fellow participants for discussion and constructive feedback from the facilitator.
While reviewing the presentations, Ms. Kwambaza emphasized the importance of understanding the target audience to ensure that media content effectively changes perceptions and motivates citizens to adopt clean cooking energy.
She explained that every programme, news story, or feature should have a clear objective, maintain audience interest from beginning to end, address key questions the audience may have, and use simple, easy-to-understand language.
She further urged journalists and Government Communication Officers to focus on producing persuasive programmes and stories rather than merely delivering information, stressing that effective content should enable citizens to understand the benefits, build trust, and ultimately change their behaviour by transitioning to clean cooking energy.
