TANZANIA AND COMOROS TO OPEN A NEW CHAPTER IN AIR TRANSPORT
The Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) has marked a significant milestone in the aviation sector by officially welcoming direct flights operated by Royal Air, connecting Tanzania and the Comoros.
The launch of the new route is expected to enhance passenger travel, cargo transportation, and trade between the two neighboring nations, which have long enjoyed strong economic and social ties.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony today, JNIA Director Bertha Bankwa said the introduction of Royal Air services is a major achievement for Tanzania’s aviation industry, as it increases the number of airlines serving the Tanzania–Comoros route.
She noted that the airline will operate four flights per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Bankwa further explained that Friday flights will follow a special arrangement, arriving with passengers and returning to Comoros carrying cargo.
According to Bankwa, Royal Air’s entry into the market will promote healthy competition within the aviation sector and contribute to increased airport revenue through a higher volume of passengers and cargo traffic.
She added that the route is already served by other airlines, including Air Tanzania and Precision Air, highlighting the strong demand for air travel between Tanzania and the Comoros.
