TAKUKURU Ilala Donates TZS 20.89 Million to Support Children's Heart Surgeries at JKC
The Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) Ilala Region has donated TZS 20.89 million to the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI) to support life-saving heart surgeries for children suffering from heart diseases.
Presenting the cheque on behalf of PCCB Director General Crispin Chalamila in Dar es Salaam, Ilala Regional PCCB Head Faustine Mahijo said the donation reflects the institution’s commitment to supporting healthcare initiatives in the community, particularly efforts aimed at saving the lives of children affected by heart conditions.
Mahijo noted that, besides its core mandate of preventing and combating corruption, the gesture is part of PCCB’s social responsibility and commitment to supporting the well-being of Tanzanians, especially families facing financial challenges in accessing medical treatment.
“We hope this contribution will bring hope and open the door to treatment for these children so that they can regain their health and fully recover,” said Mahijo.
He added that the donation also supports the efforts of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who has consistently championed improvements in maternal and child healthcare, as well as the overall health sector in Tanzania.
Mahijo further commended JKCI Executive Director Dr. Peter Kisenge and his team of specialist surgeons for their dedication and outstanding work in saving the lives of Tanzanian children through advanced cardiac care.
Receiving the donation, Dr. Peter Kisenge, Executive Director of the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute, expressed gratitude to PCCB Ilala and its staff for their generosity, compassion, and concern for children suffering from heart diseases, particularly those from financially disadvantaged families.
Dr. Kisenge explained that, in response to the growing burden of heart disease, JKCI established the Heart Team Africa Foundation, whose role is to mobilize financial resources, support research, and provide education aimed at improving access to treatment for heart patients.
He revealed that since its establishment, the foundation has raised approximately TZS 2.7 billion, enabling heart surgeries that have saved the lives of 305 children.
Dr. Kisenge also called upon members of the public and other stakeholders to continue supporting the institute’s initiatives so that more children suffering from heart conditions can receive the treatment they need and have a chance at a healthier future.
