Deputy Minister for Energy, Hon. Salome Makamba, has said that Tanzania has made significant progress in implementing the clean cooking energy agenda, with access to clean cooking solutions increasing from 6.9 percent in 2021 to 28.6 percent in 2025.
She said these achievements have been driven by strong government leadership, collaboration with development partners, private sector participation, and increased public awareness of the benefits of clean cooking energy.
Speaking during the official opening of the 2026 Clean Cooking Energy Stakeholders Conference held in Arusha on June 10, 2026, Hon. Salome noted that the Government is committed to achieving its target of ensuring that 80 percent of Tanzanians use clean cooking energy by 2034 through the implementation of the National Clean Cooking Energy Strategy 2024–2034.
“Several initiatives have contributed to this progress, including the distribution of 452,445 LPG cylinders, 200,000 improved cookstoves, and the implementation of the CookFund Project, funded by the European Union through the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), which has enabled more than 634,000 households across various regions of the country to access clean cooking energy services,” she said.
She also called on all stakeholders to continue working together to ensure that more citizens gain access to clean, safe, and affordable cooking energy, emphasizing that the agenda is crucial for public health, environmental protection, household economic well-being, and the country’s sustainable development.
The conference, organized by UNCDF, aimed to discuss progress, opportunities, and strategies for accelerating the adoption of clean cooking energy across Tanzania.
