SAMIA, PUTIN OPEN A NEW CHAPTER OF COOPERATION; RUSSIA TO ANNOUNCE MORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR TANZANIA

The Russian Federation has pledged to open up more opportunities for investment, trade, and cooperation with Tanzania for the mutual benefit of both nations, while reaffirming its commitment to strengthening its long-standing relationship with the East African country.
Speaking to journalists after official talks with the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that his country has been closely monitoring the reforms taking place in Tanzania and is impressed by the progress being made.
Putin stated that their discussions were highly beneficial to both nations and that Russia would continue to enhance cooperation with Tanzania in various development sectors. He also announced that Russia would unveil a range of investment and business opportunities during an upcoming international economic forum scheduled for the coming days.
According to figures presented, Russia currently has 70 projects in Tanzania valued at US$434.22 million, which have created employment opportunities for 3,018 Tanzanians.
For her part, President Samia said that her visit to Russia carries significant historical importance both personally and for the nation of Tanzania, noting that more than half a century has passed since the last official state visit by a Tanzanian leader to Russia.
“My visit holds special historical significance for me personally and for my country. More than half a century has passed since the last official state visit from Tanzania to Russia. Therefore, this is a truly historic journey for me to come to Russia and discuss various issues of bilateral cooperation, as well as sustainable development for our people,” President Samia said.
President Samia also expressed her gratitude to the Russian Government for the invitation and recalled Russia’s significant contribution to Tanzania’s struggle for independence. She further congratulated President Putin on the 81st anniversary of Victory Day, commemorating the victory in World War II, which was marked on May 9 this year.
President Samia arrived in Moscow for her first visit to Russia, which is also the first visit by a Tanzanian leader to the country in more than 50 years.
During their talks, the two leaders discussed ways to further strengthen the friendly relations and cooperation between Tanzania and Russia. They also exchanged views on a range of regional and international issues of mutual interest to both countries.
