POLICYMAKERS, RESEARCHERS TO DISCUSS TRA'S ACHIEVEMENTS TOMORROW

Policymakers, researchers, tax experts, private sector representatives, taxpayers, and development partners are expected to convene in Dar es Salaam tomorrow to discuss the achievements of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA).

The discussions will focus on the milestones attained over the past 30 years of revenue administration and chart a development roadmap for the next three decades.

Speaking to journalists on June 18, the Acting Principal of the Tanzania Institute of Tax Administration (ITA), Dr. Lewis Ishemoi, said the Guest of Honour at the conference is expected to be the Minister of Finance, Ambassador Dr. Khamis Mussa Omar, who will officially launch various discussions on the progress of tax administration in Tanzania.

According to the organizers, participants will have an opportunity to review the achievements recorded during three decades of tax administration reforms, the contribution of technology in improving tax services, as well as lessons and experiences gained throughout the period.

The conference will also discuss strategies for broadening the tax base, strengthening voluntary tax compliance, increasing the use of modern technologies in tax administration, and enhancing collaboration between TRA and various stakeholders to improve the efficiency of government revenue collection.

Dr. Ishemoi noted that the conference is being held as TRA marks its 30th anniversary since its establishment in 1996, providing an opportunity to reflect on the institution’s journey, achievements, and future direction.

TRA has called upon all invited participants to attend the conference and jointly discuss the achievements made while laying a strong foundation for further strengthening revenue administration and tax services in the coming decades.

The conference is expected to serve as an important platform for exchanging experiences, ideas, and recommendations that will contribute to improving the efficiency of the tax system and promoting the country’s economic development.
