The Government has continued implementing strategic electricity transmission projects aimed at strengthening the National Grid by improving its capacity, reliability, and overall stability.
Speaking to journalists today at the National Grid System Control Centre in Dar es Salaam, the Minister for Energy, Hon. Deogratius Ndejembi (MP), stressed the importance of completing the 400kV transmission line projects on schedule, including the Chalinze–Kinyerezi and Chalinze–Dodoma lines. He said these projects are essential for reinforcing the National Grid and ensuring reliable electricity supply to citizens and productive sectors of the economy.
"The completion of the 400kV transmission line projects is a critical step in strengthening the National Grid. The Government will not tolerate delays in these projects because they are fundamental to ensuring reliable electricity supply for the people and supporting the country's economic development," he said.
In addition to implementing these strategic projects, Minister Ndejembi directed the Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO) to further strengthen the National Grid's protection and control systems to ensure that faults occurring in one section do not affect the entire electricity transmission network.
Following the National Grid disruption that occurred on June 27, 2026, which caused power outages in several parts of the country, the Minister also ordered the formation of an investigation committee comprising experts from the Ministry of Energy, TANESCO, and security agencies. The committee has been tasked with determining the root cause of the incident and recommending long-term measures to prevent similar disruptions in the future. It has been instructed to submit a preliminary report within one week.
Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy responsible for Electricity and Renewable Energy, Engineer Felchesmi Mramba, said the Ministry will closely oversee the implementation of all directives issued by the Minister, including the work of the investigation committee and the execution of projects aimed at strengthening the National Grid.
"We will enhance supervision of the Minister's directives and closely monitor the implementation of electricity transmission projects to ensure they are completed on time, thereby improving the stability and efficiency of the National Grid," Engineer Mramba said.
These measures reflect the Government's commitment to investing in the improvement of the country's electricity infrastructure, with the goal of enhancing the stability of the National Grid, ensuring reliable electricity supply, and creating an enabling environment for economic growth and national development.
