MEASUREMENT AWARENESS ATTRACTS CITIZENS, WHO PLEDGE TO VOLUNTEER AS AMBASSADORS

Dodoma –

“Now I know what I should check when filling up fuel, buying sugar, or even purchasing cooking gas.” These were the words of Mr. Bilson Vedastus, one of the citizens who visited the Weights and Measures Agency (WMA) exhibition booth during the National Public Service Week celebrations currently taking place at Chinangali Park Grounds in Dodoma.

The booth has become a major attraction on the third day of the exhibition, June 18, 2026, with large numbers of citizens turning up to learn how the Government, through WMA, ensures that all measuring instruments used in trade and services are accurate. The exhibition began on June 16 and is expected to conclude on June 23, 2026.

After receiving detailed explanations from experts, many visitors pledged to become ambassadors of the Weights and Measures Agency in their communities.

“We have seen how fuel dispensers, weighing scales, and other measuring instruments are inspected to ensure accuracy. We can no longer remain silent when we witness consumers being cheated. We will educate our neighbors and report any form of measurement fraud wherever we encounter it,” said Ms. Asha Siyaya.

WMA experts Albogast Kajungu, Mbwana Amani, and Said Ibrahim explained that measurement verification affects all sectors that directly impact citizens’ daily lives. In the petroleum sector, all fuel pumps are inspected and certified with verification stickers. In markets and shops, scales used to weigh sugar, rice, vegetables, and other goods are regularly checked to ensure customers receive the correct quantity for their money.

The water and electricity sectors were also highlighted. Water and electricity meters used in homes and small businesses are verified and certified to ensure consumers pay only for their actual usage and not for inaccurate readings or estimates. Similarly, cooking gas cylinders, pre-packaged products such as flour and soap, and roadside weighbridges are routinely inspected and verified.

Speaking to journalists, WMA Communications Manager Ms. Veronica Simba said the Agency’s goal is to ensure that every citizen receives full value for every shilling spent. She also encouraged more people to visit the WMA booth before the exhibition concludes.
