EACOP PROJECT CREATES OVER 3,000 JOBS IN SINGIDA REGION – DEPUTY MINISTER SALOME

Iramba, Singida

More than 3,000 jobs have been created in Singida Region through the implementation of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project. Local communities are also benefiting from various business opportunities, including food vending, transportation services, and other support activities required during the project's execution, contributing to increased household incomes in areas surrounding the project.

Deputy Minister for Energy, Hon. Salome Makamba, made the remarks on June 13, 2026, in Iramba District, Singida Region, during a visit by the Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba.

She said that the vision of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, is to ensure that the EACOP project not only contributes to national economic growth but also serves as a catalyst for improving the livelihoods of individual citizens through employment and business opportunities.

In another development, Hon. Salome stated that by 2030, all hamlets in Iramba District are expected to have access to electricity. Out of the district’s 393 hamlets, 165 are already connected to the national grid, while contractors are currently working to extend electricity services to an additional 65 hamlets.

She further noted that the Government has allocated TZS 285 million for the construction of a Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) office in the district to improve service delivery. The project is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

Additionally, the Government has allocated TZS 1.085 billion in the current financial year for electricity infrastructure improvements in Iramba District. The funds will be used to shorten electricity distribution lines and install additional transformers to enhance the reliability and accessibility of electricity services.

Regarding the promotion of clean cooking energy, Hon. Salome said that Iramba District has received more than 1,000 improved cookstoves and over 2,000 gas stoves as part of ongoing efforts to encourage the adoption of clean cooking solutions.

She also called upon men to support women by purchasing and promoting the use of clean cooking stoves, noting that such initiatives help reduce the time women spend on household cooking activities and allow them to participate more actively in income-generating and development activities for their families.
