Dr Samia bans exploitative boda boda contracts



Ubungo District Commissioner, Albert Msando, has said that President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan has directed authorities to ban exploitative contracts imposed on boda boda riders.

He urged groups of young people to formalize their status by obtaining birth certificates, which would enable them to acquire national identification numbers and meet other requirements needed to access loans.

Msando made the remarks in Dar es Salaam today, Saturday, May 16, 2026, while speaking at a University Students Conference held under the theme “Never Again.”

He revisited the structure of contracts used for boda boda riders, saying some force riders to repay up to Sh6 million for motorcycles originally purchased at Sh3 million.

Msando said the excessive repayments and exploitative agreements are among the reasons why boda boda riders resort to speeding in order to meet daily remittance targets of Sh13,000 demanded by their employers.

*Government Launches 15274 Hotline to Ease Access to National ID Information

Dar es Salaam: The Government has urged citizens to use their mobile phones by dialing *15274 to easily access information related to National Identification Cards (NIDA). Speaking today, December 29, 2025, the Minister for Home Affairs, George Simbachawene, said the service will enable citizens to check the status of their National ID cards, including whether the card has been produced or not, with feedback provided within five days. He explained that through this number, citizens will receive important information regarding their National IDs, adding that damaged ID cards are expected to be replaced starting February 2026. “By using this number, you will be able to get information on whether your ID card has been produced. I emphasize that damaged ID cards will be issued in February 2026,” said Minister Simbachawene.
