CBE ALUMNI URGED TO CONTRIBUTE TO NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Graduates of the College of Business Education (CBE) have been encouraged to use their positions to contribute to national development through their knowledge, experience, and available resources.

The call was made by the Head of Mwalimu Nyerere School in Kibaha, Professor Marcellina Chijoriga, while speaking at the Alumni Breakfast event held in Dar es Salaam. She emphasized that alumni are a strategic and valuable resource for advancing education and the economy.

She noted that national development cannot rely solely on government efforts, but requires collaboration among various stakeholders, including alumni who play a significant role in society.

“Alumni are not just former graduates, but agents of change. Each one has a responsibility to continue contributing to nation-building,” said Prof. Chijoriga.

She further explained that alumni have a great opportunity to support students and institutions by offering academic mentorship, facilitating internships and employment opportunities, as well as participating in research and innovation.

Additionally, she stressed the importance of entrepreneurship among graduates, encouraging them to think beyond employment and instead establish businesses that will drive economic growth.

On her part, the Rector of the College of Business Education, Professor Edda Lwoga, said alumni have a unique role as a bridge between classroom education and the real demands of the job market.

“Your involvement can transform the lives of many students. Even a single internship opportunity can be the beginning of a young person’s success,” said Prof. Lwoga.

She added that alumni participation in institutional development—such as contributing resources, supporting scholarships, and offering strategic guidance—is essential in improving curricula to match labor market needs.

She also emphasized the importance of networking and collaboration, noting that alumni can help expand the institution’s partnerships both nationally and internationally, while promoting research and innovation.

Furthermore, alumni engaged in business were encouraged to inspire entrepreneurship among students, equipping them with the ability to become self-employed and create jobs for others.

The event brought together various alumni from different sectors, providing them with an opportunity to exchange experiences, ideas, and develop joint strategies to contribute to the development of the institution and the nation at large.

Meanwhile, CBE alumni Ally Mayai Tembele and Jackline Michael said they meet annually with the aim of strengthening unity and using their experience to benefit current students and the institution as a whole.
