TRA COLLECTS TZS 9.31 TRILLION IN THREE MONTHS

Cooperation between the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) and taxpayers has been credited for enabling the authority to set a new record by collecting TZS 9.31 trillion in the third quarter of the 2025/26 financial year, equivalent to 106.4 percent of its target of TZS 8.75 trillion.

According to a statement issued by the TRA Commissioner General, Mr. Yusuph Juma Mwenda, on April 1, 2026, the authority collected TZS 3.58 trillion in March alone, representing 107.6 percent of the monthly target of TZS 3.32 trillion.

The statement further noted that the third-quarter collections reflect a growth of 23.6 percent compared to TZS 7.53 trillion collected during the same period in the 2024/25 financial year.

It added that the strong performance in March has enabled TRA to set new records in domestic revenue collection. The average monthly collection between January and March 2025/26 reached TZS 3.10 trillion, the highest ever, compared to an average of TZS 2.51 trillion during the same period in 2024/25.

TRA recorded positive growth of 23.6 percent between January and March 2026 and has exceeded its revenue targets for 21 consecutive months since July 2024—an achievement the authority has never attained since its establishment. This success has been driven largely by improved cooperation between TRA and taxpayers.

The statement also indicated that the third-quarter collections of the 2025/26 financial year represent a growth of 114.1 percent compared to TZS 4.35 trillion collected during the same period in the 2020/21 financial year when the Sixth Phase Government assumed office.

Between July 2025 and March 2026, TRA registered 900,755 new taxpayers, achieving 131.36 percent of its target of registering 685,706 new taxpayers by March 31, 2026.

Additionally, TRA strengthened its relations with business associations and traders during the third quarter by holding meetings and listening to their concerns to address tax-related challenges. The authority reaffirmed its commitment to further improving relations with taxpayers across all economic sectors in order to promote voluntary tax compliance.

TRA also assured the public that it will continue working closely with all citizens to ensure that the revenue targets for the 2025/26 financial year are fully achieved, thereby enabling the government to implement development plans for the benefit of the entire nation.
