Stakeholders Support OSHA on World Day for Safety and Health at Work

As part of commemorating the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, which will be nationally held in Njombe on April 28 this year, the Occupational Safety and Health Authority (OSHA) is set to conduct a special medical outreach clinic.
The clinic, known as Imarisha Afya na Mama Samia, will involve health screenings for diseases such as cancer, hypertension, diabetes, women’s health conditions, eye problems, bone-related illnesses, and nutritional status. It will also provide medication to citizens who undergo health check-ups at the clinic, which will be held at Mji Mwema Primary School grounds in Njombe.
This was revealed over the weekend by OSHA’s Chief Executive, Khadija Mwenda, while speaking to this publication in Dar es Salaam.
She was receiving a donation from Planet Pharmaceutical Company based in Dar es Salaam and called on stakeholders to support the initiative for the benefit of citizens who will attend the clinic.
Mwenda said that this year’s approach is more comprehensive, as it will include specialist doctors providing both diagnosis and treatment, unlike previous years where services were limited to consultations and basic screenings.
She added that the exhibitions, scheduled to begin on April 24 and conclude on April 29, will involve more than 100 companies and entrepreneurs. This is expected to attract a large number of citizens to access health services, advice, and medication.
“In commemorating the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, we have been conducting training, exhibitions, awards, distribution of protective equipment, and special clinics.
“I therefore urge residents of Njombe and neighboring regions to turn up in large numbers. We sincerely thank Planet for providing these medicines and call upon other pharmaceutical stakeholders to support us,” she said.
Mwenda further noted that OSHA has been running this service for five years through the Imarisha Afya na Mama Samia program, serving over 5,000 people annually. This year, they aim to reach more than 10,000 beneficiaries.
She also mentioned that specialist doctors from hospitals such as Muhimbili, Mirembe, Njombe, OSHA, and others are expected to participate.
The Human Resources Manager of Planet Pharmaceutical Company, Andrew Paul, said the donation was part of giving back to the community that has significantly supported their operations.
“What we have provided to OSHA is part of our commitment to give back to the community that continues to support us. We promise to keep collaborating with this agency,” he said.
He added that OSHA is an important stakeholder in their operations, contributing to their continued growth and service to the public.
