HESLB Partners with Tanzania Posts Corporation to Simplify Student Loan Applications
The Higher Education Students' Loans Board (HESLB) has entered into a cooperation agreement with the Tanzania Posts Corporation aimed at simplifying student loan application services for youth across the country.
Speaking during the signing ceremony held today, April 22, 2026, the Executive Director of HESLB, Dr. Bill Kiwia, said the partnership will help address various challenges students have been facing when applying for loans.
He explained that post offices will be used to assist young applicants in filling out and submitting loan applications, verifying documents, and providing technical support to ensure they meet the required criteria.
“Our goal is to ensure that no young person misses out on a loan due to technical challenges or lack of assistance in completing applications,” emphasized Dr. Kiwia.
He added that since the establishment of the board, over nine trillion Tanzanian shillings have been disbursed as loans to more than one million beneficiaries, including undergraduate, diploma, master’s, and PhD students.
Despite these achievements, he noted that challenges still exist within the application systems, particularly for youth in rural areas who have limited access to internet services.
On his part, the Postmaster General, Macrice Mbodo, said the corporation continues to fulfill its mandate of improving service delivery through its network of more than 350 offices nationwide, connected to the global postal system.
He pointed out that the postal service already collaborates with over 150 institutions, both public and private, to deliver various services including medical supplies, information, and financial services.
Through this new partnership, he said, they will ensure that young people receive proper guidance when filling out loan application forms and avoid mistakes that could cost them this important opportunity.
The event is part of the Sixth Phase Government’s efforts under President Samia Suluhu Hassan to improve access to public services and promote youth development in the country.
