DEPUTY MINISTER WANU PRAISES HESLB FOR LOAN RECOVERY, DR. KIWIA INTRODUCES “KIDUCHU” CAMPAIGN

The government has announced that the Higher Education Students’ Loans Board (HESLB) has successfully collected TZS 1.8 trillion from more than 400,000 beneficiaries over a period of three years. These beneficiaries had previously received higher education loans.

This was revealed today in Dar es Salaam by the Deputy Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Wanu Ameir, during the launch of the “KIDUCHU” campaign, which aims to encourage loan beneficiaries to repay their loans gradually in small amounts.

Wanu stated that the amount was collected between 2022 and 2025, representing 70 percent of the total due repayments.

“For the 2025/2026 financial year, as of March 2026, a total of TZS 175 billion had been collected, with a target of reaching TZS 220 billion,” she said.

She further noted that the KIDUCHU campaign, initiated by HESLB, is expected to help achieve a collection target of TZS 225 billion.

“The KIDUCHU campaign is not a replacement for previous efforts, but rather a continuation of ongoing initiatives aimed at encouraging beneficiaries to repay their loans,” she added.

On his part, the Executive Director of HESLB, Dr. Bill Kiwia, said that through the KIDUCHU campaign, the board aims to reach over 100,000 beneficiaries who had not been previously reached.

Dr. Kiwia emphasized that the goal is to ensure the board meets its target of collecting TZS 220 billion.
