CBE LAUNCHES “CBE GENDER DAY,” DELIVERS KEY MESSAGES ON GENDER EQUALITY
The College of Business Education (CBE) has marked its Gender Day (CBE Gender Day) as part of advancing the agenda of gender equality and socio-economic development.
The event was officiated by the Guest of Honor, Ms. Fatuma Abdallah, Chief Executive Officer of Energy’s, who emphasized that gender equality is not just about celebrations, but a fundamental pillar for economic development, quality decision-making, and institutional efficiency.
She commended CBE for strengthening gender equality through policies and implementation, noting that despite ongoing efforts, women still face various workplace challenges, including gender-based violence and unequal opportunities.
She further stated that since joining the organization in 2023, women made up only 6 percent of the workforce, but that number has now increased to 27 percent—demonstrating a strong commitment to enhancing women’s participation in the energy sector.
In addition, Ms. Fatuma highlighted the close collaboration between Puma Energy and CBE, aimed at promoting gender equality while enhancing students’ skills and professionalism, particularly in the energy sector.
Speaking at the event, the Rector of CBE, Edda Tandi Lwoga, noted that the institution is at the forefront of ensuring gender equality through policies, programs, and practical implementation within the college.
She stated that the college has launched a long-term gender program aimed at sustaining gender equality achievements built over more than 50 years, while ensuring equal opportunities for both men and women in education and academic development.
Professor Lwoga also added that the institution has taken various steps to equip students with practical work experience before graduation, including signing nine Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) locally and another nine internationally, involving banks and financial institutions.
Furthermore, she explained that the college has introduced a “double degree” program that allows students to study for two years in Tanzania and complete their final year in China, a move aimed at preparing them for global competitiveness.
