The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Bank of Tanzania (BoT) has decided to maintain the Central Bank Rate (CBR) at 5.75 percent for the second quarter of 2026.
This was announced today, April 2, 2026, at the BoT sub-headquarters in Dar es Salaam by the Deputy Governor in charge of Economic and Financial Policies, Dr. Yamungu Kayandabila, on behalf of the MPC Chairperson, who is also the BoT Governor, Mr. Emmanuel Tutuba.
Dr. Kayandabila informed stakeholders in the financial sector and members of the media that the decision was reached during the MPC meeting held on April 1, 2026, which assessed the performance of the economy.
He stated that the decision aims to support economic growth while keeping inflation within the target range of 3–5 percent, with bank lending rates expected to remain affordable in the country.
